Progress Slowing a Bit

Truman lost a little weight yesterday. He is down to just under 2 lbs, 8 ounces. His back-up support on the C-PAP had also been lowered to 5 breaths per minutes, but due to some de-satting, it's been raised back to 10 breaths per minute. The fortifier for his breast milk was raised by 2 more calories to help address the weight loss. His nutritionist also said that protein powders might be added to help as well.

All in all, he's doing quite well, but we don't like to see him lose weight. He needs to gain and gain steadily to get big enough to come home someday.

Don't get too discouraged. He's probably just burning extra calories with all of the breathing he's been doing! :)

I'm with jp -- breathing takes some work! Three steps forward, one back ... such is NICU life. Truman is doing fantastically well. Make sure to take tons of pics -- your little man will grow so fast, and you won't want to forget his newborn days, even though they are tough!

One moment he looks like his daddy, then in other pictures he looks alot like you. It's amazing.

I'm from the Jan BBC Boards and we are all keeping tabs on the Truman updates. We send you our best.

Every day is a new journey.

Congratulations. Keep that good news coming.

Go Truman!

I had not peeked in on Truman for about a week- and WOW! He looks great! It is true-a little extra calories go to the breathing-but hang in there! Working in the NICU I have gotten to see parents starting out being afraid of the fragility of their little one to parents like you have gotten 'comfortable' and enjoy caring for him! I used to be a nanny for a former 23 weeker (he is now 11 years old) and I have to admit that I forgot just how small they are, and how scary it can be to be around the beeping and everything so small. Keep up the great fight-keep growing-he will be home with you before you know it!

I've been checking in, I saw your posts on the Dec. board, I'm due January 10. My son was a preemie, granted not as early as Truman but my heart still goes out to you. What a little fighter you have, my heart just melts seeing his pictures and reading the updates. Many prayers are going up for your little guy, be strong!

Hi there: My name is Cait. I belong to an online community (ivillage) and someone there posted about your blog. I wanted to take a quick look and was mezmoried by your beautiful boy.

I wish you all the best of luck and I look forward to a year from now when you're groaning about your great big boy tearing around the house, mucking up everything and causing all kinds of trouble!!

Take care and thanks for letting strangers be a part of your process.

All the best,

cait

ps-my son's blog (which I've been woefully poor at updating) is: www.sevryn.blogspot.com
