Back on C-PAP

WEIGHT: 2 LBS, 9.5 OUNCES(ALMOST)

Truman performed beautifully for about 29 hours on nasal canula before he just tuckered out and had to go back to C-PAP. He has a back-up support of 10 just like before he went to canula. The doctors think that they might try again in another week after he has had a chance to grow more. His sats are good, and his oxygen pretty well stays at room air, so the C-PAP works well for him. However, Truman really hates the nose prongs on the C-PAP. As a result, he can't really sleep on his tummy anymore because he has figured out how to lift his upper body and stretch his head back to try to pull the prongs out. He's amazingly strong and willful for such a little one.

Truman is still having trouble gaining weight. He only gained 5 grams yesterday. They added protein powders and vitamins to his feeds today to try to help him grow. They can still add a few calories, but they don't want to give him more calories than his gut can handle just to have him stool it all out. So, it looks like it will be a process of small tweaks for small gains for the time being. But, it's time to grow, baby, grow, or he will be in NICU for a lot longer.

C'mom little Truman, grow. We'll be thinking of and praying for him.

As a former preemie mom, I can very much relate to slow gains. In fact, Dear Daughter (my 725 KG baby) still has trouble gaining at 28 months old.

NICU certainly does get old, doesn't it? Hang in there.

I stumbled across your site, and I just wanted to know I am praying for your precious baby, Truman. I had twin boys born in December at 25 & 26 weeks (born 5 days apart). Sadly, Logan lost his courageous fight after 5 months. Cooper is now 9 months old & doing really well. Never give up, Truman sounds like a real fighter!

Grow Truman grow!!!

Once he gets rejuvanted on CPAP, he'll be back on canula soon enough. Did they go 'cold turkey' onto canula when they moved him or was it a shared thing? Sarah was allowed 1 hour of canula time a day for about 3-4 days, then 2 hrs, then 3 hrs... Once she got to 12 hours on and no desats (it took a while), they moved her to canula. I was just curious....

Keep the faith! He is in the best hospital with the best staff. Our Baylor babies - now almost 7 yrs. old - pray for baby Truman every night before they go to bed. We know God answers prayer! We'll hope your little "pumpkin" will be home soon..
