Continuing to Recover
CURRENT WEIGHT: 4LBS, 15 OUNCES
Truman continues to recover from surgery. He remains on the conventional ventilator because he is still indicating a lot of pain, which requires medication that could cause him not to remember to breathe. He is also still mostly out of it because of the pain medication, but he does wake up and acknowledge our presence. In fact, he seems to be bothered by my presence, as it reminds him of food. When he hears my voice or senses my presence (presumably by smelling me) he tends to start sucking vigorously on his breathing tube and crying (without sound, of course). As a result, I am trying to confine my visits to very brief stints until he's ready to be held and comforted, even if he still can't eat.
He is making some bowel sounds, so they may attempt to feed him tomorrow. Also, he gained about 4.5 ounces yesterday, so he is clearly retaining some fluid since the surgery. He also looks puffy throughout his trunk.

I am so happy that he is doing well and recovering. How heart breaking to have to watch your little angel go hungry knowing he wants you to feed and comfort him!! Take comfort knowing that this is such a huge step for Truman and his journey home, you have been so strong for him and I admire your family so much.

I hope you're feeling better from your surgery very soon and that you and momma are reunited ASAP so you two can get back to nursing.

Oh, it must be so hard for you not to spend time with your little boy! But this too shall pass, and it sounds like Truman is doing so well. He's well on his way to coming home! What a Merry Christmas it will be!
I'm glad Truman is doing as good as he can during his recovery. I experienced a time after Sarah's PDA surgery that my being there irritated her too. It was really hard to take as a mom. As soon as Truman starts feeling better I'm sure your visits will go better!

We are constantly thinking about you three...escpecially Truman. We hope that this is the last hurdle before he gets to come! Truman is one strong little man and we like to believe that he is just as determined to find a way to be in the comfort of his mom's and dad's arms. He will get there!! Sweet Truman, Your parents and both sets of grandparents sat at the Thanksgiving table and praised God for your life and gave thanks for all the nurses and doctors who have cared for you and loved you. Happy belated Thanksgiving!! I am so glad to hear how well Truman is doing. Kara, Ben, and Truman, you continue to be in my thoughts and prayers. Truman is quite a tough little guy. I can't wait for the word that you are all going home!

I've been following the story of little Truman and have been amazed at how he's fought through all of his problems. I check the site each day to check on him and pray that he's recovering well from his surgery. He's a couragous little man.
I sent in the previous post anonymously...I am so glad to hear that your little one is doing so well and hope he'll so be able to go home with you all. I had been checking the site all weekend. I have three grandchildren and know how precious these litle ones are. Keep eating and growing, Truman.
